APRIL - JULY TERM: WEEK 2 - COMICS

For this image , refer back to this previous post.

Comic Book Art
For those of you who are  currently embracing comic book art, here are some recommendations (in no particular order) based on the class discussions.
I am not going to give you an indepth review these books. I would rather you checked them out for yourselves and make your own mind up. If you live  in or near Leeds , there are plenty of comic book stores you can go to to check these books out.
OK Comics
19, Thornton’s Arcade, Briggate, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 6LQ

Travelling Man
32 Central Road , LS1 6DE
Most cities and towns have comic book stores these days or at least a Waterstones, and they have a pretty decent comic book section.
Failing that, you have amazon.

Panel Discussions: Design In Sequential Art Storytelling

Twomorrows Publishing
I learned so much from this book. It's not a, "how to", book but rather gives you some great insights  from some of the leading and respected pros

The Killing Joke  by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland

Considered on of Alan Moore's finest and definitely one of the best Batman vs Joker stories
Great story and great art.
Perfect.

          The Dark Knight Returns
         Frank Miller

Miller's groundbreaking take on Batman that catapulted the caped crusader back to the top of the hero pile

             Sin City

Fast paced and brutal, the way Miller does best.
The artwork is  stunning

            Hellboy by Mike Mignola.

Seed Of Destruction is a good start
Great story , great artwork.
Mignola makes comic book storytelling look easy
That's how good he is.

    100 Bullets
     Brian Azzarello
    Eduardo Risso

Very fast paced storytelling. Great artwork

           Daredevil by Mark Waid

Very fast paced storytelling. Great artwork. Great fun.
A really easy read.

         Arzach by Moebius

        Just amazing

           The Incal
          Alexandro Jodorowsky and Moebius

I don't know where to start with this one.

Some of my comic book work
As I mentioned in class. I hate every comic book I have had published. I find it really amateurish and low grade . But then , I would.
I no longer daw like this but the reason I am including these here, is that, Some people actually like them. I have been told by some that Godspeed was the first comic book they read and some have told me that it inspired them to draw comics (only better, I imagine).
Looking back at them, I think some of the page shave moments of adequate storytelling.

Godspeed

Tupac: Death Rap

Apologies for the irregular type alignment, Blogger was being difficult today.
